February Comes & Go~

Two post before this, it was February 1st. Now, it's already the last day of February. February comes and goes in the speed of light compared to other months of the year, obviously because it only has 28/29 days. Oh well, February 2010 had generally been a great month; of CNY and birthdays. =)

Went back to Penang as usual. Duh, my annual affair during CNY. Collected fewer red packets this year compared to last year, since the economy doesn't allowed and fewer relatives were in Penang. Moreover, I thought I would be getting more ang pow this year since many of them had recently exchanged vows. And I've got to admit, throughout the time in Penang; I was NEVER hungry. My tank was either full or at least 3 quarters full! Talk about gluttony! I guess now I've got to stick to my New Year resolutions and get rid of those extra pounds. Bummer. =(

Yes. My birthday coincides with CNY, yet AGAIN; which makes it all more happening! My day kick-started by meeting up with Khai Li, Mag, Annie and Jeffrey at Lian Thong for lunch. Our faithful place for meeting up right?? Was sad that Ling Ling couldn't join us. And there, I got my first slice of birthday cake from Jeff. Chocolate Indulgence (I've checked, Jeff. on the webbie). Thanks Jeff, it was nice. Also for lunch. =)

After that, it was off to Jenn's. Everyone met up at her place before we head on our visiting trip. Oh boy, we went to quite a number of houses in one day! Jenn's, Mrs. Ng's, Khai Li's, Jen Yong's, Mr. Tan's, Jing Rui's, Sher Lyn's, Shea Yuin's and finally my humble abode. Fuh. From day to night! And in between we had a pit stop at Panorama. There we had ice cream feast and also the second birthday cake from the whole gang. Thank you so much peeps(you all know who you are)!

At Ng's, we stargazed on her freshly-cut grass. Tried using the telescope but we couldn't see a thing, so we gave up. Haha. We sang 'dui mien de nu hai kan guo lai' on Ng's lawn and cam-whore on Ng's lawn. Before midnight, we arrived at my humble abode(so-called surfing house by Jane). At my place, I received this huge lantern(those that can float up to the sky) with good/well wishes written all over it...I was surprised. Mind you, I was really about to cry. Had tears in my eyes already. And I didn't realised that they have been up to something the whole time. How blind of me. Sad thing is that it wouldn't go up. We tried twice. So now, its' lying in my room. After the two failed attempts, we gambled a little.

And that was it. One heck of a tiring day. I had a great birthday. Another memorable one indeed. Thanks again peeps!! Also thanks to all those who called, sms-ed, left a comment on FB and MSN. It made my day. =) Next day we celebrated Jane's birthday with her online. We gathered at Ng's and connected the lappie to the LCD TV so that we could all view her on the big screen. I hope we made her day. =)

Just last night here in KL, had another CNY celebration with my friends. We 'lou sang', played cards and of course we drank. Gosh. My head was so darn heavy after that. Even when I woke up this morning, it was still heavy. All these was thanks to the alcohol consumption. Thank god, today is Sunday and not a school day. I didn't experience a hungover tho. But my hair did. Had such a bad hair day when I woke up. A housemate of mine, Looi gor; was in such a drunken state. 40% vodka in your red wine or in your Revive drink, and this is what happened. He was so drunk that he started mumbling nonsense. Haha. All the girls was still in a conscious state by the time we went to bed.

So there, February have been pretty much like this for me. Fun-filled. As always. And always will be. =)

Goodbye February. Till we see each other again next year. =)

March will be coming. And so is tests, assignments, and whatnot. I'll be experiencing Monday blues on March 1, 2010. =(

Kids & Money

Everyday without fail, I would check my e-mail inbox, login to the-ever-so-popular Facebook and sign into MSN. It's like I've been automated do all these 3 things before doing anything else while I'm at my desk. Another thing I would not miss every single day would be to read the featured articles on Yahoo! homepage. Often I find articles that are fascinating, ridiculous and sometimes just plain silly. Today I came across this article entitled 'How to Talk to Kids About Money'.

After reading the article, come to think of it; both my parents never really taught my brother and I about the value of money when we were kids. When ever we wanted to buy toys, it was either ONE toy only or NONE at all. And when we questioned and pestered our parents on why we can't have it, it'll be reasons like; "You just bought a Barbie doll recently." or "You've still got so many toys in good condition lying in the cupboard." My parents never gave any reason relating to money. Now I wonder why. Maybe cause we would never really understand the value of money, and eventually we would STILL ended up sulking for the entire day; it's not like we would ever be contented with the reason of money issue.

However, as soon as my brother and I grew into our teenage years; our parents began to lecture us about the value of money and budgeting. We learned about budgeting when our parents change the pocket-money system from weekly system (primary shcool) to monthly system (secondary school). And if any one of us were to spend all our allowances before the end of the month; we would have to face the consequences of not having any money to spend for the rest of the month.

But I guess that never happened to either one of us siblings as we always brought our own food for recess . And oh how I remember that I was one of those who always bring scrumptious food to school; lou mai kai-glutinous rice with pork (yes, it's supposed to be forbidden), siew mai-pork dim sum, har mai-prawn dim sum, tarts, pastries and bread with various fillings and toppings. Yes, I was the luckiest one when it comes to recess food. =)

Although our parents never did really stressed to us about money issue, we could easily tell we came from a family that are just average-earners. However, on special occasions or achievements; we STILL get stuff that we wanted so badly (eg. Playstation, computer, that pair of Fila shoes, etc.). We also got our cell phones and Astro; though much later compared to others. I guess mainly our parents doesn't want to spoil us and also in terms of disciplinary wise.

Recently, just a few months back; I was eagerly recommending a few friends of mine to read a best-selling book titled 'Rich Dad Poor Dad' by Robert T. Kiyosaki and Sharon L. Lechter.

It's a book where I think most accountants and financial analysts would/should have read the book. Basically, the book is mainly about teaching your kids about money; the value of it, how to earn it, how to double or even triple it, how to ACTUALLY differentiate between liabilities and assets and making sure your assets are always generating more money. In other words, how to make money work for you instead of you working for money. So that's pretty much the summary of the book.

Generally, teaching your kids the value of money is never really an easy task. But it's still another quintessential education that parents ought to teach their kids, besides your normal sex education. To be frank, I only learned it the hard way the true value of money; when I moved out to further my studies. From there only I saw with my very own eyes the flow of money and how volatile it is. =(

Genting - New Found Interest - February

Went on a one-spontaneous-day trip to Genting with my friends. The 13 of us; 8 guys and 5 girls, met up at Gombak LRT at 8.30am and off we went. It was FUN. =D It have been quite sometime since I last went up to Genting. And to have the adrenaline rush in my body is AWESOME!! We all screamed our lungs out from all the extreme rides we went on. Corkscrew, Flying Coaster, Pirate Ship, Flume Ride and all the whatnot. The sad part, SPACE SHOT WAS UNDER MAINTENANCE. =(

Recently, I've got a new found interest. Trinkets/Jewellery making!! =D Few months back I realised that there were many young ladies out there who actually make their own jewellery. I found it really fascinating but never really did want to try it. Until just few days back when I stumbled upon this blog http://beads-and-pieces.blogspot.com/ . Those pieces on the blog are really pretty and feminine. And this time it really got me going!!

The next day I was so pumped up! I went out and tried finding for a shop (that i once know) that sells all the materials and tools needed to kick start my new found interest, but to no avail. Maybe they shifted/shut down. =( So, if anyone of you out there know any shops/suppliers that sell materials such as charms, beads, bronze/silver plated chains, bronze/silver connectors, etc. do let me know okay?? Thanking you in advance. Also a huge thanks to a few of my friends who are lending a hand by asking their friends for such shops. You guys know who you are... *wink wink* =D

Mind you, my dear friend Jennifer Cheng is already asking me for a piece of trinket. I really hope I'll be good at this. Then I can turn it into a hobby and have the satisfaction of making my own jewellery! One of a kind in the whole wide world! =D
